Day becomes the first-ever Corban SID to receive the illustrious recognition, honoring his dedicated coverage and promotion of Corban Athletics.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Monday morning that Corban University's Danny Day has been named the NAIA Sports Information Director of the Year for 2017-18. Day becomes the first-ever Corban SID to receive the illustrious recognition, honoring his dedicated coverage and promotion of Corban Athletics.
"The field of athletics communications is not an easy job to undertake, which is why it is so impressive how easy Danny makes it look," said Brad Cygan, NAIA Director of Athletics Communications. "Danny is an exceptional Sports Information Director, a term which does not come close to explaining what he and his colleagues around the country do on a daily basis. His work is at the highest level, not just within our association, but in the grand scheme of collegiate athletics. I'm proud to have Danny representing Corban and the NAIA, and we couldn't be more happy to announce him as this year's recipient of the NAIA SID of the Year Award."
The honor is awarded annually to one SID from across the NAIA, based upon accomplishments in the areas of athletic communications, sports information, promotion, and service to the NAIA. The recipient of the highly-distinguished award is voted on by the NAIA National Office, the NAIA-SIDA Board of Directors, and past recipients of the plaudit.
Day, who is currently serving in the Corban University athletic department as Assistant Athletic Director (External Operations), earns the national recognition after accruing his second Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) SID of the Year award in 2017-18. Day was nominated for the NAIA SID of the Year award against all other conference SID of the Year recipients nationally.
"On behalf of the entire Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), I extend our congratulations to Danny," stated CCC Commissioner Robert Cashell. "Since he arrived at Corban, his energy, enthusiasm and creativity have added immensely to the world of Sports Information. He continues to raise that standard at his school, in the conference, and throughout the entire NAIA."
A trailblazer in the field of sports information, Day has garnered widespread acclaim for his creativity and tireless dedication to the promotion and recognition of Corban's student-athletes. The athletic department's annual Golden Warrior Awards (an ESPY's-like awards show at the end of each academic year), the athletic communication department's reputation for producing cutting-edge content, and the campus's thriving Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) are just a few examples of Day's advocacy of Warrior student-athletes.
In addition, Day spearheaded the redesign of CorbanWarriors.com, which is now the only athletic website in the NAIA to be ranked in the top-6 in each of the last four years. The website, which covers everything about Corban Warrior athletics, is once again in the process of being redesigned and is set to launch with a new fresh look in October.
"Danny's leadership and commitment to the student-athletes and coaches at Corban University has been an inspiration and encouragement to everyone who Danny's life touches," said Corban University Director of Athletics Twiggs Reed. "He is passionate about his role as the Sports Information Director and performs his duties with excellence and character. Danny's care for others speaks highly of the godly way in which Danny carries himself. Danny, in his fifth year as the SID at Corban University, has raised the bar of what excellence looks like in all he does."
A contributor on the national level, Day has served on the NAIA-SIDA Board of Directors this past year, acting as the 'New Media' committee chair for the NAIA-SIDA Continuing Education series in 2017-18, while currently serving as the board liaison for the branding committee. In addition, Day provided key insight on the world of athletic communications as a panel member at the 2018 CoSIDA Convention in Washington, D.C.
"It is humbling to receive this honor," said Day. "I love what I have the opportunity to do at Corban as we get to impact student-athletes' lives as they make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ. Being able to serve alongside so many great coaches and administrators here in Salem is a blessing, and I could not do it without the amazing support from my wife. This award is also a testament to our athletic communications team as a whole, as without them, what we are able to do at Corban would not be possible."
The award marks a significant milestone in Day's already impressive career, as he continues in his role in the athletic department at Corban University. For a complete list of the NAIA national award-winners CLICK HERE.
