Red Lion Players of the Week Announced 9/17/2018 12:15:03 PM September 17, 2018 The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period September 10-16. Volleyball-Attacker Eastern Oregon’s Megan Bunn has been chosen as the Red Lion volleyball Attacker of the Week. Bunn, out of Banks, Ore., hit over .370 in both of EOU’s weekend victories over Evergreen and Northwest. Bunn racked up 33 kills in total, while tallying just seven errors. Making her presence felt all over the court, the junior also added a pair of service aces and four block assists to propel the Mountaineers’ weekend sweep. Honorable mention: Ashley Pagan, CI; Elliott Cook, SOU Volleyball-Defender College of Idaho’s Drew Dobney has been named the Red Lion volleyball Defender of the Week. Dobney, a sophomore hailing from Vale, Ore., was key in the Lady Yotes’ weekend victories, recording nearly six digs per set (including a career-high 26 digs against Northwest) as No. 14-ranked College of Idaho extended its win streak to four matches. Honorable mention: Emma Ryan, SOU Volleyball-Setter Marija Djonovic of College of Idaho has been named the Red Lion volleyball Setter of the Week. Djonovic was outstanding yet again for the No. 14-ranked Lady Yotes, as the CCC leader in assists averaged a staggering 13.4 assists per set in the team’s weekend sweep over Northwest and Evergreen. On an individual level, Djonovic eclipsed the 2,000-assist mark over the course of her career. Honorable mention: None Women’s Soccer-Offense Carroll’s Talya Vaira has been named the Red Lion women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Vaira, a senior midfielder out of Great Falls, Mont., netted a pair of heroic goals in the final two minutes of the Saints’ match against No. 19-ranked Eastern Oregon. Her efforts would help Carroll force overtime against the preseason CCC-favorite Mountaineers, with the game concluding in a 3-3 draw. Honorable mention: Katie Michkiosky, NU Women’s Soccer-Defense Jenna Stiehr of Oregon Tech has been chosen as the Red Lion women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Stiehr landed her second and third-consecutive shutouts over the weekend, facing a total of 22 shots between OIT’s 2-0 win over College of Idaho, and scoreless draw against (RV) Rocky Mountain. Stiehr has now extended her scoreless streak to 290 minutes. Honorable mention: Kailey Lemon, SOU Men’s Soccer-Offense Michael Ebel of Eastern Oregon has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Ebel netted the first-two collegiate goals of his career over the weekend, the first being a golden goal—a brilliant half-bicycle kick into the top-left corner of the net—that sealed EOU’s 2-1 win over Providence. Not done there, Ebel found the back of the net again in the team’s 4-0 win over Carroll. Honorable mention: Levan Zhividze, CRB; Jose Porras, CC Men’s Soccer-Defense Michael Miller of Southern Oregon has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Miller, a junior from Fresno, Calif., was invaluable as a member of the Raider backline in both of the team’s shutout victories over the weekend. Allowing only two combined shots on goal through both games, the Raider defense played a huge part in SOU’s upset victory over No. 9 Rocky Mountain. Miller was also the lone source of scoring for the Raiders in their 1-0 win over College of Idaho, converting a penalty kick to fuel the win. Honorable mentions: Julian Hernandez, NCU Women’s Golf British Columbia’s Kelly Hellman has been named the Red Lion women’s Golfer of the Week. Hellman, a native of Nelson, B.C., claimed a first-place finish individually at the NCU Invitational, helping the UBC squad to a tie for first in the team’s first time competing as associate members of the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Hellman shot a 74 in round one and 77 in round two to finish three strokes ahead of the second-place finisher. Honorable mention: none Men’s Golf Andrew Harrison of British Columbia has been named the Red Lion men’s Golfer of the Week. Harrison was key in UBC’s first team title as an associate member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference, ending the NCU Invitational as the only competitor in the field to finish under par (2-under 214).
