Oregon Tech Holds the Lead After Day 1 at C of I Invite
CALDWELL, Idaho – Oregon Tech placed three golfers in the Top-5 to take the Day 1 lead in the second Cascade Conference women’s golf event of the season, the College of Idaho Invitational at TimberStone Golf Course.
The Lady Owls recorded a team score of 305 on the 6,108-yard track, two strokes clear of British Columbia – ranked No. 4 in the preseason NAIA Top-25 poll.
OIT’s Ashley Zhu will take a one-stroke lead into the final round, overcoming a double-bogey on her opening hole to shoot a 2-over-par 74. UBC’s Kate Johnson is alone in second at 3-over-par (75) – using a hole-out from the fairway on the Par-4 10th-hole for the lone eagle of the morning.
Payton Canon and Aerin Song of Tech tied for third at 4-over 76, with three golfers – Cecile Kwon and Shania Remandaban of UBC and Northwest Nazarene’s Stephanie Miller tied for fifth, three strokes back.
Round 2 of the 36-hole tournament is set for tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. shot-gun start.
