Lee Ties Scoring Record, Leads UBC to C of I Title
CALDWELL, Idaho – Esther Lee of British Columbia tied the Cascade Conference single-round scoring record with a 3-under-par 69, vaulting seven golfers to claim medalist honors of the College of Idaho Invitational at TimberStone Golf Course.
Lee (78-69 – 147) started slowly, bogeying two of her first three holes, but caught fire – recording three-straight birdies to close out her first nine and added two more birdies to finish at 3-over-par for the tournament – two shots clear of teammate Kate Johnston (75-74 – 159). She tied the league record of 69, first established by Concordia’s Sara Molyneaux in 2011 and 2012, with her 36-hole score of 147 just three strokes off the league record.
UBC erased a two-stroke deficit coming into the final round, carding a 12-over-par 296 to finish the tournament at 603 – five strokes ahead of Oregon Tech and 39-shot clear of Northwest Nazarene.
OIT had a pair of golfers tie for third, as first-round leader Ashley Zhu (74-77 – 151) and Payton Canon (76-75 – 151) shared the bronze medal, with NNU’s Stephanie Miller (77-75 – 152) in fifth.
