Geoducks Break Loose, Pick Up First Victory
OAKLAND, Calif. - Evergreen broke out of a early season goal-scoring slump in a big way Sunday afternoon, defeating the Mills Cyclones, 6-1, in non-conference women's soccer action.
Delaney Rice and Maddie Lockwood scored two goals apiece and Madison Early and Ana Vigil each tallied one to lead the Geoducks (1-3-0) to their first win of the season and to the first under second-year head coach Dave Morris.
Evergreen took a 2-0 lead at the half on goals by Lockwood in the 26th minute and the first strike by Rice in the 29th. Rice made is 3-0 in the 53rd minute, Lockwood added her second in the 76th and Madison Early scored shortly thereafter to put the visitors on top, 5-0.
Mills pulled a goal back in the 84th, but Vigil closed out the scoring in the 86th minute.
Rice not only scored two goals but she assisted on two others, and a third assist went to Taylor Birdsall.
The Geoducks enjoyed a 21-5 advantage in shots and a 5-0 dominance in corner kicks.
Despite not facing a shot, Megan Breckenridge picked up by the win by playing the first 45 minutes. Daphne Hobbs finished out the final 45 minutes.
