Student Athlete Advisory Committee Officers Selected

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Evergreen State College’s Brook Swensen, Oregon Tech's Sarah Abramson and Evergreen's Lexi Sanchez were selected as Chair and Co Vice-Chair's of the 2018-19 Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) the conference office announced today.

 “I am very excited to begin working with Brook, Sarah and Lexi, along with the rest of the committee,” stated CCC Intern Cheyenne Baird  “The SAAC represents the voice of nearly 3000 CCC student athletes and  important to involve them in the processes and activities of the CCC.” Baird, served as Chair of the committee during the 2017-18 year.

All three took part in the annual SAAC retreat which was held September 9 in conjunction with  the fall Council of Athletic Directors meetings. The event brought together SAAC representatives from each full member school and campus administrators. NAIA  Director of Student Athlete Health/Wellness, Mr. Russ Richardson provided an impactful keynote address on the importance of mental health.

Swensen, a native of Renton, Wash.,and plays soccer for the Geoducks. The senior is pursuing a degree in elementary education.

Abramson, a sophomore at Oregon Tech is a member of the softball team and is in pre-nursing. A native of Milwaukie, Oregon, Abramson is a pitcher for the Lady Owls.

Sanchez, a member of the Geoduck volleyball team is from Pinckney, Mich., and is an education major.Sanchez was a Three-sport athlete and Female Athlete of the Year at Pinckney Community High School prior to attending Evergreen.

On their appointments to SAAC Leadership:

Swenson: “I am so grateful to have the opportunity to lead the conference SAAC as chair. I have learned so much from my time in SAAC and can’t wait to do more with the conference."

Abramson: "Being elected into a leadership position is such an honor. I have had the opportunity to be a part of the conference on the field and now I am so lucky to be a part of the conference and it’s success behind the scenes. I am ecstatic to be able to aid in the success of student athletes from all of our participating schools."

Sanchez: "Being selected as Co Vice Chair is an amazing opportunity. I am excited to be able to help grow SAAC on our individual campuses, but also help make a big impact in our communities."

 Formed in 2013 the CCC SAAC serves the following functions:

- Discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare
- Assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus
- Increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process
- Promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs
- Provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.
