Mountaineers Make Strides at EOU Invitational 9/21/2018 11:10:08 PM FULL MEN'S RESULTS (PDF) FULL WOMEN'S RESULTS (PDF) LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted the EOU Invitational, a small meet of three teams, on Friday evening at Lane Farms. The meet consisted of Cascade Collegiate Conference rival College of Idaho and NCAA Division II opponent Northwest Nazarene. Both the men’s and women’s team took third place for EOU, but showed great improvement for an early season competition. It was just the first meet for the men and the second of the year for the women. On the men’s side, senior Lane Inwards took fourth place individually to pace the Mounties, finishing second among CCC runners on the 8,000-meter course. Inwards crossed the finish line in 26 minutes, 48.81 seconds. The men had a trio of runners place 14th-16th, led by junior Dustin Zimmerly in a time of 27:45.53. Sophomore Hunter Schiess followed Zimmerly in 28:00.51, followed by freshman Robie Swanson in 28:01.23 in his first collegiate race. Senior Brandon Hartill took 22nd (29:04.82), while freshmen Braxton Wilson (29:13.43), Brennan Lebel (29:22.18) and Travis Running (29:31.65) finished 24th through 26th place. Junior Craig Sanchez rounded out the Mountaineer runners in 30th in a time of 30:36.36. The women’s team showed the exciting potential it has, led by five freshmen as the team’s top finishers. Katie Jo Gebhardt (20:12.49) and Michelle Herbes (20:14.47) crossed the finish line first for EOU, taking seventh and eighth place, respectively. Molly Gulden came in 12th place (20:41.10), while the trio of Calista Van Delden (21:34.23), Dierdre McKay (21:40.39) and sophomore Megan Boals placed 19th through 21st place. Also finishing for the Mountaineer women was junior Brylee Moyle (22:26.80) in 26th place, freshman Maliah Russell (23:01.20) in 28th, junior Alexa Jones (23:35.86) in 29th and freshman Kendra Blake (23:47.72) in 30th.
