EUGENE, Ore. – Capitalizing on a 20-10 shot advantage, The University of Providence came away with a shutout over Northwest Christian University on Friday afternoon in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s soccer match at Les Schwab Sports Park.
The Argonauts registered what became the game-winner in the 11th minute when Eme McLaughlin scored the first of her two goals, making good on a pass from Soraya Alfaro.
With just eight minutes to play in the first half, UP added a second goal when Isa Ortman found Kate Sisler with a long service pass, setting up Sisler for a five-yard strike.
The final goal came with just 93 seconds remaining as McLaughlin found pay-dirt again after a short cross from Alexis Cavalier (pictured).
NCU (2-5, 1-2 CCC) collected six shots-on-goal in the game including two from Britnee Joaquin. They best scoring opportunity came early in the first half when freshman Hannah Best fired a 25-yard bomb off the crossbar.
Dakota Neumann recorded the clean sheet for Providence (4-1, 2-0), earning six saves.
The Beacons will return to action on Saturday evening as they play host to Carroll College at 4:30 pm. Providence heads to Salem where they will face off against Corban University at 1:00 pm.
