SALEM, Ore. – After a tough home loss yesterday, the Corban University women's soccer team bounced back in impressive fashion to defeat the University of Providence Argos on Saturday afternoon, 1-0. The triumph puts the Warrior women back in the win column, and provides a strong boost of momentum as the team looks ahead to the launch of its 2018 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) road schedule, beginning next week.

"It was great to get a win today after a disappointing game yesterday," said head coach Likius Hafeni. "I thought we started very well, and did a good job of keeping the ball and maintaining possession. In the second half we decided to defend our lead and see out the game. We are happy with these three points, and we are looking forward to our next games."

Neither team was able to create many opportunities early in the contest, with shots coming few-and-far-between for both the Warriors and Argos in the first half. It wasn't until Julia Kashubin picked out Hannah Shore – sneaking a pinpoint pass through the Providence back line – and Shore was able to execute the finish that the Warriors were finally able to break through.

Kashubin was excellent in the midfield for the Navy and Gold, proving her worth on both sides of the ball. Continually cutting out careless Providence passes, and serving a key role in the Warrior attack, the senior from Brush Prairie, Wash. proved to be integral in the winning effort.

For Shore, the goal marks her team-best fifth of the season as the forward continues to establish herself as one of the most dangerous weapons in the CCC.

Despite outshooting the Warriors on the afternoon, the Argos were unable to find the back of the net, with Corban goalkeeper Elizabeth Brock earning her third shutout of the season. The loss is Providence's first defeat in CCC play.

Corban (6-3, 3-1 CCC) will now prepare for its first road match since August 25, as the team looks to continue its strong start in CCC play against Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon next weekend.
