Under Armour Team of the Week Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Northwest University volleyball team has been named the “Under Armour Team of the Week” for September 17-23, as announced by the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles earn the honor after a pair of big CCC wins, kicking off their weekend series with a shocking upset of No. 9-ranked Southern Oregon (SOU), and then riding their momentum to a four-set triumph over Oregon Tech.
Northwest’s victory over SOU marks the first defeat of the season for the nationally-ranked Raiders, who entered the match with an almost-otherworldly record of 14-0 (7-0 CCC). The battle between the two squads was fierce, with the Eagles taking each of the last two sets to claim the five-set win (13-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-21, 15-12).
Not done there, the Eagles then proceeded to top Oregon Tech en route to the weekend sweep, taking down the Owls in four-sets (25-16, 27-25, 22-25, 26-24). Northwest’s presence at the net proved to be integral throughout the evening, out-blocking the Owls by a dominant margin, 12-1.
Northwest hopes to continue to make waves in the always-competitive CCC, as the Eagles become the first team to topple the current conference leader (SOU) in 2018 and look to build upon a strong showing in the weekend sweep.
The Eagles (8-9, 4-4 CCC) will look to continue their success as they look ahead to their next CCC matchup on the road against Multnomah. First serve is set for Friday, September 28 at 7 p.m. in Portland.
