Red Lion Players of the Week Announced 9/24/2018 11:54:55 AM September 24, 2018 The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period September 17-23. Volleyball-Attacker Northwest’s Sarah Warner has been chosen as the Red Lion volleyball Attacker of the Week. Warner was an integral part of Northwest team that earned CCC Under Armour Team of the Week honors for its weekend sweep. The senior outside hitter racked up 29 kills over the course of both victories, while also tallying 18 digs and three aces. Warner had an exceptional attacking percentage in the triumphs, including an outstanding .400 clip in the Eagles’ five-set upset of No. 9-ranked Southern Oregon. Honorable mention: Hailee Ackerman, EOU Volleyball-Defender Eastern Oregon’s Kiley McMurtrey has been named the Red Lion volleyball Defender of the Week. McMurtrey, hailing from Idaho Falls, Idaho, reached 20 or more digs in back-to-back matches for the No. 17-ranked Mountaineers, helping the team earn its sixth and seventh-straight matches. The sophomore libero proved particularly clutch in the Mountaineers’ thrilling five-set victory on the road against (RV) Corban. Honorable mention: Kealani Ontai, CRB Volleyball-Setter Courteney Carr of Northwest has been named the Red Lion volleyball Setter of the Week. Carr, a sophomore out of Snoqualmie, Wash., facilitated the Eagles’ offense during Northwest’s spectacular weekend of CCC play. Carr dished out a total of 87 assists between the two games, while also racking up seven kills and three block assists for the Eagles. Honorable mention: None Women’s Soccer-Offense Eastern Oregon’s Taylor Boyer has been named the Red Lion women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Boyer, a senior midfielder out of Eugene, Ore., was dominant in both of Eastern Oregon’s wins over the weekend. In a crucial early season matchup against (RV) Southern Oregon, it was Boyer who netted the game-winner in the 67th minute, and then helped put the match on ice with an assist less than six minutes later. The following day, she provided the equalizer twice for the Mountaineers, propelling the squad to a 3-2 victory over Oregon Tech. Honorable mention: Katie Michkiosky, NU Women’s Soccer-Defense Carroll’s McKenna Payne has been chosen as the Red Lion women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Payne, a freshman defender from Winchester, Calif., was vital in the Saints’ huge weekend doubleheader sweep. An integral piece in the team’s 2-0 shutout over Corban, and a steady presence in the back line during the squad’s 4-1 win over NCU, Payne proved invaluable as Carroll earned six points on the road. Honorable mention: Shae Waters, CI; Kat Sanchez, NU Men’s Soccer-Offense Mitchell Pinney of Southern Oregon has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Pinney racked up three goals over the Raiders’ weekend road trip, helping SOU extend its winning streak to a team-record seven games. Pinney was the lone source of scoring for the Raiders in their 2-0 win over Eastern Oregon, netting the game-winner in the 46th minute, and adding insurance with his goal in the 71st minute. The senior also tallied a goal and a pair of assists in the team’s win over Walla Walla. Honorable mention: Kohl Hurtado, CRB; Trent Siedenburg, NU Men’s Soccer-Defense Corban’s Jordan Salim has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The junior goalkeeper, hailing from Sentul City, Indonesia, was key in the No. 20-ranked Warriors’ weekend sweep, earning consecutive shutout victories over both Carroll and Providence. Salim notched seven saves over the two-game stretch, lowering his season goals-against-average to 0.65. Honorable mentions: Jonathan Taylor, CC; Gregor Watson, RMC Women’s Cross Country Northwest Christian’s Cass Brownell has been named the Red Lion women’s cross country Runner of the Week. Brownell, a senior from La Grande, Ore., earned her first career victory as she claimed the individual title in the 5K at the CCC Preview Meet on Friday. A former 400m sprinter, her time of 18:34 helped spearhead NCU to a nine-point victory over No. 12-ranked Southern Oregon. Honorable mention: Kaitlyn Schut, CI Men’s Cross Country Jacob Truitt of Northwest Christian has been named the Red Lion men’s cross country Runner of the Week. Truitt finished with a time of 25:40 in the 8K in Friday’s CCC Preview Meet, earning a 1st place finish as an individual by an impressive 18-second margin. Truitt’s impressive performance led the (RV) Beacons to a second-place finish at the meet as a team, just nine points behind No. 2-ranked Southern Oregon. Honorable mention: Alex Martin, CI Women’s Golf British Columbia’s Esther Lee has been named the Red Lion women’s Golfer of the Week. Lee, a rookie for the Thunderbirds, tied the CCC single-round scoring record with her 3-under-par 69, her incredible second round vaulted her over seven golfers to claim 1st place as an individual in the College of Idaho Invitational (78-69). Lee was integral in the T-Birds claiming their first outright tournament win as associate members of the CCC. Honorable mention: none Men’s Golf Andrew Harrison of British Columbia has been named the Red Lion men’s Golfer of the Week. Harrison earns the award for the second time this year, winning his second individual title in as many tournaments. Harrison finished at 8-under-par (69-67-72) at the College of Idaho Invitational, leading the way for the UBC team, which collected its second-straight team title at a CCC event.
