Red Lion Players of the Week Announced

The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period August 27-September 2.

 

Volleyball-Attacker

Southern Oregon’s Taylor Ristvedt has been chosen as the Red Lion volleyball Attacker of the Week.

Ristvedt, hailing from Portland, Ore., served as a dominating presence in the Raiders’ weekend sweep, finishing the road swing with 42 kills and 13 blocks to help the program to its third-ever 10-0 start.

Volleyball-Defender

Makayla Hoyt of Southern Oregon has been named the Red Lion volleyball Defender of the Week.

The sophomore, originally from Placerville, Calif., had 12 blocks in Southern Oregon’s five-set win at the College of Idaho, matching the highest block total for a Raider in the last decade. Hoyt also racked up four blocks in the squad’s win at Eastern Oregon, and currently leads the CCC averaging 1.15 blocks per set.

Volleyball-Setter

Evergreen’s Sierra Wolff has been named the Red Lion volleyball Setter of the Week.

Wolff, a freshman from Caldwell, Idaho, continued her hot start in 2018, racking up an impressive 44 assists to lead the Geoducks to an upset win on the road at No. 24-ranked Northwest.

Women’s Soccer-Offense

Eastern Oregon’s Mackinley Gregus has been named the Red Lion women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Gregus, a freshman from Glendora, Calif., kicked off her collegiate career with a bang, scoring her first three goals and earning her first hat trick in the first 13 minutes of the team’s dominating 5-0 win over Arizona Christian.

Women’s Soccer-Defense

Rocky Mountain’s Maia Wetzel has been named the Red Lion women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Wetzel, a sophomore from Billings, Mont., proved herself a valuable presence in the team’s two victories, providing a solid defensive performance in both. In the Battlin’ Bears 2-0 shutout victory over Providence, Wetzel tallied six saves.

Men’s Soccer-Offense

Sam Davidson of Rocky Mountain has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Davidson, hailing from Stirling, Scotland, helped the Battlin’ Bears go 2-0 during the week, propelling the team to a huge 8-0 win over No. 4-ranked Marymount University. During the match, the sophomore forward collected a hat trick with his impressive three-goal performance, while also dishing out an assist.

Men’s Soccer-Defense

Rocky Mountain’s Gregor Watson has been has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week. 

Watson, a senior from Duns, Scotland, made a strong impact on both sides of the ball for the Battlin’ Bears, producing a very strong defensive performance in the team’s shutout victory over No. 4-ranked Marymount College. In addition, Watson scored the game-winner with just 10 minutes remaining to lead Rocky Mountain to the 2-1 win against Briary Cliff (Iowa).

Women’s Cross Country

Oregon Tech’s Susie Garza has been named the Red Lion women’s cross country Runner of the Week. 

Garza, a senior from Baldwin Park, Calif., led the No. 4-ranked Owls to a first-place finish at the Linfield Harrier Classic. Her time of 15:10 in the 4K also earned her the individual title, out-racing all other competitors at the meet.

Men’s Cross Country

Oregon Tech’s Nicholas McMillen has been named the Red Lion men’s cross country Runner of the Week. 

McMillen, a freshman from Reno, Nev., finished seventh at the Linfield Harrier Classic with a time of 20:21 in the 6K, leading the Oregon Tech men to a third place finish in the squads first race of the 2018 season.
