LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Mountaineer men's soccer team fell to the Battlin' Bears 2-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Eastern Oregon (5-3-2, 3-2-1 CCC) dropped a tight game Sunday to an imposing opponent. No. 14 Rocky Mountain (8-2, 4-1 CCC) boasts a potent offense that has scored 17 times in their last four contests to roll to their fourth-straight win.

Rocky Mountain found the net early in the 12th minute on a goal by Pablo Ferreira, his fifth of the year. The goal was the first score allowed in the last 170 minutes of action for the Mounties stout defense. Marco Kummerle gave the Bears a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute, effectively sealing the victory.

Forward Carlos Solorio and midfielder Jorge Chavez each fired three shots to lead the EOU offense. The Mounties out-shot RMC 13-11 in the contest, but Rocky Mountain had more quality looks.

The Battlin' Bears defended the box exceptionally well, forcing the EOU attack to come from distance. Their tight coverage on the back line and solid goalkeeping gave the Mountaineers issues, leading to a clean sheet by Rocky Mountain. RMC hasn't allowed a goal since September 14th, spanning four matches. Rocky Mountain has outscored opponents 17-0 combined in those matches.

The Mounties will look ahead to a road trip to western Washington next weekend, where they will face Northwest University in Kirkland and the Geoducks of Evergreen State in Olympia.
