Saints fall 2-0 against Warner Pacific
Helena, Mont. – The Carroll College Saints men's soccer team lost 0-2 to the Knights of Warner Pacific as the second part of a soccer doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Most of the action was saved for the second half after the first ended in a scoreless draw. In the 51
st minute, Warner Pacific's Octavio Hermosillo started the scoring after a penalty kick was called for after some confusion in the box. After some delay, he promptly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner right past Carroll's diving goalkeeper.
"After two really hard fought never say die matches, we gave them the first half," head coach
Doug Mello said. "There was no immediacy to our play even though it was 0-0. We had our chances, but we didn't really play inspired."
Paulo Georgiades lead the Saints with 4 shots. His third shot of the afternoon was an absolute beauty that was about a foot from slotting right into the upper left 90.
The Knight's late substitute, Cesar Contreras, put the game out of reach for the Saints after scoring a goal in the 87
th minute following a through ball that could have gone either way for an offsides call.
Freshman goalkeeper,
Kaden Connor, looked very comfortable in front of the goal and was able to start several counter attacks from his punts.
Looking forward, the Saints play October 5
th in Billings against Rocky Mountain College.
