Yotes Ride Strong Second Half to Beat Wolves 9/30/2018 4:59:21 PM College Place, Wash. – The College of Idaho Yotes visited College Place on Sunday afternoon for a match against the Walla Walla University Wolves. Both teams were sputtering heading into the match. The Wolves (0-10-0, 0-6 CCC) were looking to rebound from an 11-0 loss at the hands of Rocky Mountain College, and the Yotes (2-3-2, 1-3-1 CCC) were in the midst of a 4-game winless streak. The game was a physical one right from the jump, as both teams spent most of the first 15 minutes jostling each other for possession. The game saw its first real chance when Walla Walla freshman Carlos Cantu struck a shot on goal, forcing a save from Yotes' keeper Parker Billings. Not long after, in the 22nd minute, the Wolves broke through when forward Emmett Semple retained the ball at the top of the box amidst heavy traffic. Semple managed to lay off a pinpoint pass to freshman defender Eric Baer who powered the ball towards the far post, past the Yotes' keeper, and into the left side of the net. After Walla Walla's opening goal, it was more of the same for the two teams as they continued to exchange possession. The leveling goal for College of Idaho came in the 36th minute. After an untimely foul by the Wolves' defense, the Yotes were awarded a free kick from right outside the 18-yard box. Yotes' defenseman Andy Sanchez calmly stepped up and slotted the equalizer off the right post and in. There was not much to split between the two sides as they headed into the halftime break all squared at one. The Yotes wasted no time creating chances at goal coming out of the half as midfielder Brenden Kenley took the ball down the right flank and deep into the box. What looked like a clear goal for Kenley was denied by Wolves' keeper Kohl Tomcho as he attacked the ball with a sturdy sliding save. The following ten minutes were highlighted by multiple opportunities from Cantu and the Wolves' attack. This spell of good attacking, however, would prove to be Walla Walla's downfall as the Yotes turned a Walla Walla corner into a deadly counter attack. Midfielder Jack O'Leary possessed the ball in Walla Walla's final third, and proceeded to run it the length of the pitch before laying it off to Ahmet Huremovic who put home his first goal of the season, giving the Yotes' a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute. Despite the score line, Wolves goalkeeper Kohl Tomcho was sharp in this match, helping the Wolves remain within striking distance for much of the second half. Tomcho's abilities were on full-display in the 70th minute after a Yotes' corner kick. A well-delivered ball into the box was met with a textbook header by Yotes' defender Andy Sanchez. However, right before Sanchez started celebrating as he watched his ball sail towards the top left corner, Tomcho leaped to make an acrobatic reaching save. After an unfortunate Walla Walla own-goal, the College of Idaho gathered all of their momentum and rode it to the final whistle, picking up two more goals from Bekir Cinac and Jhonier Caicedo in the process. The Yotes took the victory by a score of 5-1. The College of Idaho now looks forward to a home match against the University of Providence on October 5 at 1 p.m. As for the Wolves, they will be hitting the road for a matchup against The Evergreen State College in Olympia on October 5th at 3 p.m. as they continue to pursue their first victory.
