LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon volleyball team swept Walla Walla in straight sets (25-12, 27-25, 25-14) Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The No. 17 Mountaineers (14-4, 9-1 CCC) finished off a perfect month of September, winning nine straight conference matches, and dropping only five sets in the process.

The Wolves (0-11, 0-10 CCC) have struggled up to this point in 2018. After Saturday night's CCC matchup, they are still looking for their first victory of the season.

Walla Walla almost took their first set of the year in the second frame, pushing the Mounties to a set point opportunity at 25-24. However, the Blue and Gold rallied for three straight points to win the set 27-25.

Junior outside hitter Hailee Ackerman led the Mountaineers with nine kills, followed by freshman Jet Taylor with six.

The Wolves had two players that reached double-digit dig totals. Caldora Blackburn and Erika Dudar both ended the match with 10 digs, and Lauren Barlow was just behind with eight.

Some new faces made a big impact in the contest for EOU. Sophomore setter Abby Smith recorded eight assists, second on the team to Madison Pilon who accrued twelve.

Defensively, the team rose up for 10.5 blocks. Kiley McMurtrey tallied 10 digs, and Megan Bunn logged eight of her own.

The Mountaineers will go for 10 straight wins at Oregon Tech on October 5th at 7 p.m. EOU won their previous meeting with the Owls in straight sets on September 1st.
