ASHLAND – Forward Misty Martinez, a sophomore reserve, popped in at the right time yet again for Southern Oregon in a key 1-0 victory over Corban on Sunday afternoon at Raider Stadium.

In the 80th minute, Martinez sparked a celebration on an otherwise quiet day with the game-winner and her second goal of the weekend. The Raiders (5-2-2 overall, 3-1-1 Cascade Conference) had only mustered one shot in the half before Cassandra Kohler found Simone Schroder, who from 17 yards out split two defenders by tapping a pass forward and sending Martinez streaking toward the goal.

Martinez beat Corban keeper Elizabeth Brock to the ball and skipped a short shot past her left hand and inside the right post.

The win allowed the Raiders to jump Corban (6-5, 3-3) in the standings, moving them into a tie for fifth place and just three points out of first.

It was the third CCC game in which Martinez has accounted for SOU's lone goal, resulting in two wins and a tie.

Schroder's assist was her first of the season.

SOU's defense took care of the rest as Kaya Baird, Trinity Rhoades, Jazmin Shaffer, Maddy Spangler and Brionna Wood formed a sturdy back line. They allowed the Warriors to get off eight shots, though Kailey Lemon only needed to make two saves for the team's third shutout of the season.

The Raiders are 4-0-1 at home and, dating back to last year, are unbeaten in their last eight games in Ashland. They've also won four straight regular-season games against Corban.

They'll travel to Portland to face Multnomah and Warner Pacific next Friday and Saturday.
