No. 19 EOU Holds on 4-3 to Beat Hope International 9/6/2018 8:03:48 PM TAHOE VISTA, Calif. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team finished off their California road trip with a 4-3 win over Hope International on Thursday afternoon, improving to 4-0 on the season. In a match filled with momentum changes, EOU controlled a 3-0 lead in the second half when Hope International scored two goals in three minutes to cut the Mountie lead to 3-2. Two minutes later, sophomore forward Camie Edgington extended the Mountaineers' lead to 4-2. The Royals scored again late, but the Mountaineers held on 4-3 to remain unbeaten in 2018. "The ladies came out and played a very strong first half," head coach Jacob Plocher said. "We made it a little more challenging for ourselves in the second half, but the girls did a great job of answering back when needed." Four different players scored for the Mountaineers in the victory. Freshman Mackinley Gregus got the ball rolling in the 21st minute with a goal, running her season total to a team-high four goals . Ten minutes later in the 31st minute, sophomore Morgan Farrington finished a through ball from senior midfielder Taylor Boyer, giving EOU a 2-0 lead that they took into halftime. Boyer scored the first goal of the second half in the 66th minute, giving her a goal and assist on the day, putting the Blue and Gold on top 3-0. However, Hope International rallied after Boyer's goal, scoring twice in quick succession that threatened the EOU lead. The Mounties was able to answer the Royals' attack with Edgington's goal in the 70th minute. A late score from Hope International tightened the match to 4-3, but the Mounties were able to come away with the close win. "Hope International is a very strong team and it was a great game to prepare us for conference play starting next weekend," said Plocher. The Mounties will next head to Montana for the first Cascade Collegiate Conference matchups of the season, visiting Providence September 14 at 3:30 p.m. MT, followed by Carroll College on September 16 at 4:30 p.m. MT.
