Lady Yotes Sweep Road Match at Warner Pacific
PORTLAND, Ore. – Ashley Pagan led all players with 14 kills, as the College of Idaho swept aside Warner Pacific in three sets in the Lady Yotes' Cascade Conference road opener inside C.C. Perry Gym.
C of I (7-4, 2-1 CCC) claimed the 25-22, 27-25, 25-17 victory, rallying for wins in the first two sets before dominating the decisive period.
The visitors busted out of the gates – using three combo blocks and a pair of aces to build a 13-5 lead. However, the host Knights (2-6, 1-2) got three kills from both Melisa Ljuca and Haley Yoder in a 15-4 run to take a 20-17 lead. The No. 14 ranked team in the NAIA did not fold, as a Pagan kill and ace helped C of I score eight of the final 10 points to secure the win.
WPU controlled most of Set 2, building a 19-13 lead – only to have two Taylor Alexander kills and two Jackie van Vliet blocks start a 10-2 Coyote run to regain command. The Knights fought off two set points, before Pagan and Alexander recorded consecutive spikes to end the frame.
Set 3 was all C of I – as Pagan recorded six kills to help the Yotes clinch the road win.
Pagan added four aces in the victory, with Alexander recording 10 kills. Transfer Mackenzie Keating made her C of I debut, logging seven kills without an error and van Vliet finished with six kills and a match-high five blocks. The Yotes ran a 6-2 attack – with Marija Djonovic (21 assists) and Margie Beeler (18 assists) sharing setting duties.
Yoder led WPU with 11 kills in the loss.
C of I returns to action tomorrow night for a 5 p.m. (PT) match-up at Multnomah.
