Beacons outlast Raiders in 108-104 shootout

ASHLAND – Northwest Christian guards Tyrus Hosley and Austin Tyner scored 28 points each and the Beacons surged late Friday night to hand Southern Oregon a third straight stinging defeat, 108-104 at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
After trailing most of the night – and by as many as 11 points early in the second half – the Raiders (13-6 overall, 3-5 Cascade Conference) went on a 9-0 run capped by Tate Hoffman's transition dunk to go up 97-88 with 4:24 left.
Tyner's deep 3-pointer cut into a five-point SOU advantage before a Reece Robinson's tough layup tied it, 99-99, with 1:50 left. On SOU's ensuing inbounds pass, Jordan Hunt was whistled for stepping over the end line, and Robinson dumped it off to Davonte Cleveland to give the Beacons the lead back after they were awarded possession.
Robinson went 4-of-5 at the line in the final 20 seconds to secure the win.
It was the exclamation point to an outstanding shooting performance for the Beacons, who went to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCC. They shot 52 percent from the field (35-of-68), 52 percent from 3 (12-of-23) and 84 at the line (26-of-31). Hosley and Tyner combined to go 8-of-13 from behind the 3-point line.
The loss spoiled freshman guard Teron Bradford's career-high 27 points. The Oregon City product shot 10-of-17 from the field, scored 15 after halftime and dished out a team-high six assists to stir a stellar night for the Raider offense, which shot 51 percent.
Tristen Holmes went for 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Tate Hoffman scored 16 on 6-of-8 shooting and Tez Allen had 13 points and four assists.
Three more Beacons were in double figures, however: Ernest Ugoagu (19 points), Cleveland (12) and Robinson (12).
SOU will host Corban and NCU travels to Oregon Tech on Saturday. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m.
