Under Armour Team of the Week Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team has been named the “Under Armour Team of the Week” for January 7-13 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
In a weekend where a number of teams turned in impressive performances, it was the Beacons that shook up the CCC, and possibly the national standings win two big road victories over top twenty-five foes.
On Friday night NCU handed No. 18 Southern Oregon University a 108-104 loss in a high scoring affair inside Lithia Motors Pavilion. Tyrus Hosley and Austin Tyner each scored 28 points for the visitors. As a team the Beacons shot 52 percent from the field (35-of-68), 52 percent from 3 (12-of-23) and 84 percent at the line (26-of-31).
On Saturday night NCU ventured into the extremely tough confines of Danny Miles Court on the campus of Oregon Tech to take on the No. 14 Hustlin’ Owls. In another contest that would go down to the wire, Hosley hit the game winning shot with just .9 seconds from the right elbow of the free-throw line to seal the upset victory 93-91. It was only the second time the Beacons won in Klamath Falls since 1985 with the other coming in the 15-16 season.
Northwest Christian (15-4, 7-2 CCC) will be on the road January 18-19 as they travel to No. 2 in the nation The College of Idaho and (RV) Eastern Oregon.
