Woodvine, Warriors hand SOU 1st home loss

ASHLAND – A night after scoring 41 at Oregon Tech, Corban's Jordan Woodvine finished off a memorable road trip by victimizing 19th-ranked Southern Oregon with 26 points and 13 rebounds, hitting four 3-pointers in the second half to close out a 71-62 win at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
With the weekend sweep, the Warriors (13-6 overall, 7-2 Cascade Conference) supplanted the Raiders (12-5, 8-3) in second place and stopped a nine-game losing streak in the head-to-head series.
Up 33-30 at halftime, they took control by starting the third quarter with a 10-0 run that was bookended by Woodvine 3-pointers. After SOU cut it to 54-47 on back-to-back triples from Daranda Hinkey and Ariel Augustine with eight minutes to go, Lindsay Asplund responded a 3 of her own to start a momentum-halting 7-0 spurt.
Emily Yost added a second double-double for the Warriors, finishing with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting and 11 rebounds. Corban shot 51 percent from the field, the highest clip for an SOU opponent in conference play this season, and had a 26-16 advantage on points in the paint.
SOU finished with a 30-percent clip, though Hinkey went 7-of-12, including 5-of-8 from downtown, to record a team-high 19 points with four assists. Destinee Jones had 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Warriors outscored the Raiders 40-23 in the second and third quarters, during which time Woodvine went 8-of-11 from the field.
SOU plays next week in Washington – Friday at Evergreen (Wash.) and Saturday at Northwest (Wash.).
