Dodd’s Auto Qualifier, School Record Leads Day 1 of Ed Jacoby Invite

NAMPA, Idaho. – Senior Paige Dodd had an incredible day for the Eastern Oregon track and field team, setting a program record in the women’s pentathlon while should easily qualify her for nationals, Friday afternoon at the Ed Jacoby Invite and Multi.
 
Dodd recorded 3,484 points, ranking third in the NAIA this season entering the day. The top-16 athletes at the end of the year qualify for the national meet Feb. 28-March 2. Her pentathlon was highlighted by her 1.70-meter jump in the high jump, an automatic qualifying mark itself for nationals and the No. 2 mark in the NAIA this season and in the all-time EOU record books.
 
To top off her fantastic day, Dodd also posted the third fastest time in program history in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.42 seconds. She also had the ninth best indoor long jump mark and the 22nd best 800-meter time at 2:27.88. Dodd had PRs in all five events for indoor track and field, finishing second overall out of 16 competitors.
 
Also in the pentathlon, freshman Olivia Lane took seventh place with 3,097 points, the fourth best score in EOU history. She had the 10th best 60-meter hurdle time at 9.69 seconds, the 15th best mark in the high jump (1.52 meters) and the 23rd best time in the 800 meters at 2:28.68.
 
In the men’s pole vault, Corey Sledge joined teammate Justin Gould as a national qualifier, hitting 4.85 meters, ranking third in the EOU record books and No. 5 in the NAIA this season entering the day. Freshman Darrian Walker had a personal record of 4.55 meters, ranking 10th in EOU history.
 
The men’s distance medley relay team of freshman Hunter Kratz, junior Devin Lewis-Allen and seniors Alex Navarro and Lane Inwards finished first over three College of Idaho relay teams with a time of 10:18.25, the 10th best mark in program history.
 
In the women’s weight throw, sophomore Danielle Church finished 17th with a throw of 13.37 meters. Freshman Maggie Ledbetter took 25th at 11.80 meters. Junior Casci Carpenter placed 29th and had the 25th best mark in EOU history at 10.73 meters.
 
Junior Sam Roddewig and sophomore Jonah Coats currently sit in 10th and 11th in the men’s heptathlon, with action continuing on Saturday at 9 a.m. Mountain time.
 
The Mountaineers as a team will also get started at 9 a.m. Mountain time on Saturday, beginning with the men’s high jump and weight throw on day 2 of the Ed Jacoby Invite and Multi.
