Oregon Tech Pulls Away From Geoducks
Oregon Tech won for the 11th time in the last 12 games, defeating Evergreen by an 85-68 score in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Saturday night inside Costantino Recreation Center.
Seth Erickson scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead a balanced attack for the Owls (18-5 overall, 9-2 CCC), while Ryan Quigley scored 17 points to lead the Geoducks (5-14, 1-10).
Oregon Tech scored the game's first six points and stayed on top the rest of the way.
Leading 46-35 at the intermission, Oregon Tech opened up a 15-point lead early in the second half. The Geoducks responded with seven unanswered points, including five from Brandon Kohler, to cut their deficit to eight points, but the Owls answered and later built a 21-point lead with about nine minutes left.
Quigley scored 17 points for the second consecutive night by shooting 6-for-7 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Malik Redmond added 12 points, followed by Kohler with 11 and Dalton Groenewold with 10. Redmond and Elijah Fuller paced Evergreen with five rebounds apiece, but the Owls won that battle decisively, 44-27. Oregon Tech ranks fourth in NAIA Division II in rebounding margin, averaging nearly 12 more rebounds per game than its opponents.
Joining Erickson in double figures was Scotty Burge with 10 points, and 11 of the 12 Owls to play scored points. Oregon Tech shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63) from the field compared to 48.9 percent (23-for-47) for Evergreen.
