ASHLAND – The 24th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team made clear early there would be no slip-up the second time around against Multnomah, rolling to a 77-60 victory on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Ariel Augustine scored 10 of her team-high 17 in the first quarter on 4-of-4 shooting to set the tone for the Raiders (15-5 overall, 11-3 Cascade Conference), who kept their spot in second place with a seventh win in eight games.
After dropping the teams' first matchup on Dec. 30, SOU sped out to a 27-13 lead with a 15-3 quarter-closing run in the first. Augustine hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Dominique Harding added another that put a bow on the spurt, and the Raiders led by double figures the rest of the way.
The Lions dropped to 9-12 and 5-8 in the CCC, though Sequoia Wheeler kept them competitive by dropping in 22 of her 25 points in the second half. She shot 9-of-13 with four 3-pointers and added a team-high five rebounds.
Sophia Altemus led SOU's charge after halftime, when she scored each of her season-high 13 points by slashing to the basket often and shot 6-of-9.
Raider wing Syd Fryer flirted with a triple-double, recording nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists. She also had three of the team's 10 steals, helping the Raiders force 24 Multnomah turnovers.
Dominique Harding added 21 points, three assists and two steals. Daranda Hinkey dished out five more assists as SOU shot 46 percent from the field (30-of-66).
Warner Pacific – which dropped to fifth place with a two-point loss Friday at Oregon Tech – visits the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
