No. 20 Mountaineers Crush No. 4 North Idaho on Senior Night

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 20 Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling team upset No. 4-ranked North Idaho 38-12 on Friday for Senior Night, finishing their home regular season duals on a high note.
 
Prior to the dual, the Mountaineers (10-9) honored four seniors who were wrestling in their final home duals of their collegiate careers in Mhar Caballa, Drake Randall, Dino May and Harley Dilulo.
 
The night started at 174 pounds, with North Idaho (ranked No. 4 in the National Junior Coaches Athletic Association) jumping out a 6-0 lead after a quick pin. The Mounties bounced back as freshman Ryan Redford earned a second round pin over James Scott to even the score. Dilulo then won by forfeit at 197 pounds to put EOU up 12-6 The score was tied after the heavyweight bout 12-12, with six matches remaining.
 
Moving back to the lowest weight class at 125 pounds, No. 4-ranked Caballa won a close 6-3 decision to give EOU the lead for good at 15-12. Caballa defeated Jacob Garrison in a tough match, winning his final home match of his career.
 
No. 11-ranked junior Blake McNall then won another big match over No. 7-ranked Nick Hara in the NJCAA. McNall was able to keep Hara on bottom for a large portion of the third period to earn the big victory heading into the postseason.
 
Junior Tyler Miler had an impressive match, dominating opponent Bryce Miller to earn an 18-3 technical fall at 141 pounds and earn EOU five more points. The Mounties increased their lead to 29-12 after redshirt freshman Jared Brant won by forfeit at 149 pounds.
 
In the most competitive match of the evening, freshman Keegan Mulhill took on Cooper McCullough of North Idaho at 157 pounds. The pair battled back-and-forth with the score tied 10-10 in the final minute of the third period. With under 10 seconds, Mulhill gave a final effort to earn the match-winning takedown, taking a 12-10 win.
 
In the most anticipated match of the night, No. 4 Randall faced off with No. 5 Izaiah Duran of North Idaho. However, Duran was forced to forfeit in the first period due to injury, giving Randall the win in his final home match.
 
The Mountaineers will take the momentum of Friday’s win next week on the road to Southern Oregon to conclude the regular season on Feb. 2 in Ashland.
