Raiders hit 11 3-pointers in 1st half to defeat Wolves

ASHLAND – Senior forward Ariel Augustine scored a career-high 25 points and had a big hand in a first-half downpour from downtown as Southern Oregon eased to a 73-49 win over Walla Walla (Wash.) on Friday afternoon at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The 18th-ranked Raiders (9-4 overall, 5-2 Cascade Conference) combined for 11 3-pointers in the first and second quarters, their highest total in a single half in at least a decade. Augustine hit three of them and finished 10-of-17 from the field with seven rebounds.
The Raiders hit 11-of-23 from deep before halftime, going up 30-10 after a quarter, and went 12-of-36 for the game. Junior point guard Daranda Hinkey accounted for two 3-pointers and recorded 11 points and three assists.
The Wolves (2-14, 1-6) stayed winless in eight all-time meetings with SOU. The teams will run it back at 6:30 p.m. Satruday.
Playing with a shorthanded bench, the Raiders got eight points, seven rebounds and four assists out of freshman Dominique Harding in a spot start. Danasia Allison scored eight and Mallory Heard had a pair of 3-pointers with six boards, marking season-highs for both freshmen.
Delaney Sparling (6 points, 5 assists) was the fourth Raider with multiple triples. Destinee Jones added 10 rebounds and three steals and Kenadee Honaker compiled five points, eight boards and four steals.
The Raiders went 28-of-71 overall, racking up 19 more field-goal attempts than the Wolves thanks to a 21-6 advantage on the offensive glass.
Titi Graham had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Carolina Montes scored 12 for the Wolves.
