Redding, Calif. | Warner Pacific closed out opening weekend of the 2019-20 Basketball season with a 77-67 win over Simpson University on Saturday night. The Knights are 2-0 heading into a week of exhibitions against Portland State University and Gonzaga University.

The Knights have been shooting the ball well; 53% from the field on Friday and 43% on Saturday.

Coach Gregg has a couple of exceptional shooters on his team; Gabby Bruno, who put up 23 points on Friday, and Darbi Pink, who led all players on Saturday with 21 points. Pink was 6-11 from the field, 3-6 from the arc and 6-7 from the free throw line.

Sr. Samantha Morgan had 17 points for the Knights and Bruno racked up another 16.

The Knights are quick and scrappy, and Gregg uses that to his advantage in having his girls fly around in their press. The Knights had 21 points off of turnovers on Saturday, for a total of 62 for the weekend.

“After these two games I’m really excited for the rest of this season!” said Senior Darbi Pink after the weekend, “As a team we’re figuring out all of our kinks and finding out what works and doesn’t work for us. Everyone is establishing their role on this team and as long as we work hard to fulfill our roles, we are going to be a solid team.”

The Knights will travel to the Westside of Portland on Wednesday to play an exhibition game against Portland State University. They then will travel to Spokane to face the Bulldogs of Gonzaga University for another exhibition game on Saturday. The games are set for 5pm and 2pm.
