Big First Half Leads to Win for Southern Oregon Men's Soccer

College Place, Wash. – Walla Walla hosted the Raiders of Southern Oregon University Friday afternoon at the WWU Soccer Complex. A big first half attack by the Raiders (5-4-0, 3-1-0 CCC) led to a 10-0 victory over the Wolves (3-7-0, 1-4-0 CCC).
The teams battled back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes before Southern Oregon was able to break through the Wolves defense in the 11
th minute for their first goal. Noah Addie was able to put a cross into the box after a Wolves’ defender could not deflect the pass and Alan Gaytan was able to convert into the bottom right corner to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The Raiders added another goal six minutes later in the 17
th minute, as Adrien Villegas dribbled through the Wolves defense and placed the ball in the bottom right corner of the net just out of the reach of Wolves goalkeeper to take a 2-0 lead. The Raiders continued to convert their opportunities and score four more goals to close the first half with a comfortable 6-0 lead.
Coming out of the half, the Raiders wasted no time adding to their lead. Five minutes into the second half Yan Gomberg put a through-ball that was deflected off a Wolves’ defender and Luis Aguilar took the deflection and found the left corner of the back of the net to give the Raiders their first goal of the second half and a 7-0 lead. The Raiders continued their attack, tacking on four more goals and holding the Wolves scoreless for the rest of the match. Adrien Villegas led the Raiders attack, accounting for five of the 10 goals scored (2 goals, 3 assists).
The Wolves continue their season on Sunday, October 6 at 12:00 p.m. when host the Owls of Oregon Tech (5-1-2, 2-1-0 CCC). The Raiders will continue their road trip and travel to No. 24-Ranked Rocky Mountain College (4-3-0, 3-1-0 CCC) for an 11 p.m. MST matchup on Sunday, October 6 in Billings, Mont.
