Bush Honored for Years of Service to Concordia Athletics
Portland, ORE.- Current Cascade Collegiate Conference Eligibility Chair, Mickie Bush was inducted into the Concordia University Athletics Hall of Fame on October 5th. Bush was the recipient of the Dr. Joel Schuldheisz Outstanding Dedication to Concordia Athletics Award. The Cavaliers are former members of the CCC having left in 2015 joining the GNAC conference.
Bush is the second recipient of the Dr. Joel Schuldheisz Outstanding Dedication to Concordia Athletics Award. The first honoree was Dr. Joel Schuldheisz in October 2017. Bush graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in Secondary Education/Physical Education. She graduated from Philomath High School in Philomath, Oregon. After college, she taught Physical Education and Theater Arts and coached middle school track and field. Beginning in 1986, Bush was the Registrar at Concordia University for 18 years. During that time, working closely with Dr. Joel Schuldheisz, she oversaw the process of verifying athletic eligibility for all participating student-athletes in all sports. As Registrar, she assisted many student-athletes in transferring to CU as well as mapping out academic plans to assist them in completing their degrees. In addition, she attended practices and athletic events with retired Financial Aid Director, Jim Cullen. In the early 1990’s,
Bush became the Eligibility Chair for the Cascade Collegiate Conference and a few years later she assumed the same role for the Frontier Conference. Since leaving Concordia in 2004, Bush became the Registrar at Oregon Health & Science University. She continues her role as the Eligibility Chair for both the Cascade and Frontier Conferences. Bush and her husband of 45 years, Martin, have three children, Chris, Jason and Courtney and six grandchildren.
