Corban Rallies to Defeat Northwest, 3-2
KIRKLAND – Three second-half goals by Corban frustrated the hopes of a Northwest win Friday, as the Eagles fell 3-2.
NU scored 77 seconds into the game when Jordan Travis took the ball away from a defender and beat the CU keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Travis again bedeviled a Corban defender and repeated his finish in the 20
th minute to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
“We started the game well, and Jordan scored two great goals,” said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. “We executed the game plan to perfection in the first half. The second half was a different story, and we just didn’t play our game. Now we move onto Saturday’s game and get ready for Northwest Christian.”
Allando Brown got Corban on the scoreboard in the second half to make it 2-1. Matheus Giron evened the score in the 49
th minute, playing home a carom off the crossbar.
Giron scored again with an assist from Nate Sherwood in the 88
th minute to steal the win.
The Eagles had eight shots in the game and put four on goal. Travis and Joey Starr each had two shots on goal to lead the team.
Alexander Thiehofe picked up three saves in the losing cause.
Now 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Northwest battles Northwest Christian at noon Saturday to finish out the weekend homestand.
