LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eastern Oregon's No. 6 women's soccer team picked up its sixth win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Carroll College in their conference home opener at Community Stadium Friday afternoon.

The Saints had the first real chance of the game 23 minutes into the half. The opportunity arose when the Purple and Black had a throw-in deep in the Mounties defensive third. The throw found the foot of a Carroll player and narrowly missed the goal, hitting the side post.

There wasn't a lot separating the two sides across 40 minutes, the first half ended with a 8-6 shot count in EOU's favor and 2-1 corners for CC.

However, it was Captain Josee Bassett who opened the scoring for the match in the dying minutes of the first half. Senior Nan Kiebert whipped in a corner kick to the back post which found the head of Bassett, who buried it into the net for her third goal of the season.

After the break, Morgan Farrington had an early chance when defender Korilynn Goller made a run up the field and fed her the ball for a good shot, but it was saved by Sydney Green.

In the 78th minute, Kayla Storm scored her first career goal as a Mountaineer. It was a beautiful team goal that many players were a part of. Kiebert got on the ball in the 18-yard box and found the feet of Mackinley Gregus who quickly passed it back to Kiebert. The senior then played a square ball to the back of the box where Storm stepped up and slotted it home to put the Mountaineers up 2-0, securing the win.

EOU's defense collected their fifth shutout of the year and senior goal keeper Cydni Cottrell had six saves.

The team finishes the weekend at home against University of Providence Saturday at 4 p.m.
