Men's Soccer 10/5/2019 11:48:00 PM Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director EOU Men’s Soccer Falls Late 2-1 to Providence LA GRANDE, Ore. – In a back-and-forth Cascade Collegiate Conference battle, it was the University of Providence men's soccer team that came away with the close 2-1 win over Eastern Oregon Saturday night at Community Stadium. The Argos (6-2-1, 4-2-0 CCC) struck early with a ninth minute goal by Manuel Garcia to go up 1-0. The goal held through the first half as EOU led 5-4 in shots and 4-1 in shots on goal. It didn't take long into the second half for the Mountaineers (4-5-1, 2-3-0 CCC) to knot the score as Javier Moran found the back of the net less than three minutes in. The goal created tension through the rest of the game as both teams put together scoring chances that were either just missed or defended well by each goalkeeper. However, in the 88th minute, the Argos kept the match from reaching overtime. After a flurry of shots at the EOU net, one finally found its way past the defense and keeper Max Rose, as George Holloway's low shot picked the corner. The Mounties were unable to get the equalizer and fell 2-1. EOU led the shot count 13-11 and 8-4 in shots on goal. Rose played well in net, making some key punch outs that didn't count as saves, but helped limit any Argo chances. The Mounties also led corner kicks 5-4 over Providence. Moran paced the team with three shots and two on goal. Senior Elvis Pavon also had two shots on frame while junior Calvin Mitchell added two more shots. Hernan Perez made seven saves for the Argos in goal. The Mountaineers will next head for a long road trip, visiting Oregon Tech on Friday in Klamath Falls and Southern Oregon on Saturday in Ashland.
