Corban University Highlights Postseason CCC Men’s Soccer Awards
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced the 2019 Men’s Soccer All-Conference teams Tuesday evening, showcasing the conference’s top performers during the fall campaign.
For the second year in a row, Rocky Mountain College’s Nolan Sherwood was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Regular-season champion Corban University saw three Warriors earn top honors, with Allando Brown sharing the Defensive Player of the Year title with Southern Oregon University’s Michael Miller, Matheus Giron grabbing Newcomer of the Year and Tim Kagey being named Coach of the Year. Multnomah University was honored the Team Sportsmanship Award to round out the top honors.
Sherwood finished the regular season with 14 goals, the most in the CCC, to average almost one a game, which ranks 31
st amongst NAIA goal scorers. The senior forward also ranks in the top-25 of four other categories: 0.63 assists per game (17
th), 2.38 points per game (20
th), 38 total points (22
nd) and 10 total assists (24
th).
Brown helped lock down the Warrior backline that led the CCC in fewest goals allowed with 14 (0.88 goals against average). The junior defender also got into the attack, scoring five times so far this year.
Miller picks up his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award after helping SOU boast the second-best goals against average in the conference (0.94). The senior defender also can get forward into the attack for the Raiders and has two goals and six assists on the year.
Giron transferred to Corban after two years at Heartland Community College and made an impact right away. The junior midfielder has scored 13 goals – third-most in the CCC – and assisted on five others. Four of Giron’s goals have lifted the Warriors to victory, including the goal that secured Corban’s conference championship.
Kagey was named the Coach of the Year in his first year at the helm. The Warriors were predicted to take third in the conference, but under Kagey’s guidance, Corban grabbed its first outright CCC regular-season championship with an undefeated record going into the postseason.
Below is the complete list of 2019 award winners and all-conference honorees. Honorable mention was awarded to players who had at least two votes from the CCC Men’s Soccer Head Coaches.
