SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A seven-over-two upset highlighted the quarterfinal round as the Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s soccer tournament got underway on Tuesday at the Les Schwab Sports Park.
#1 Corban 6, #8 College of Idaho 1
Leading 2-0 at the intermission, top-seed Corban University pulled away in the second half, eventually out-shooting the Yotes 23-7 as they advance to the semifinals. Allando Brown got the scoring underway in the 9th minute, putting his head on a Camilo Avendano corner kick.
Four other Warriors found the back of the net and Corban also benefitted from a game-winning own-goal midway through the first half. Matheus Giron led the team with a second-half goal and a pair of assists. Justin Keegan made four saves between the pipes.
#7 Evergreen 2, #2 Rocky Mountain 0
The seventh-seeded Evergreen State College Geoducks were out-shot 22-10 on Tuesday but held a 7-5 edge in shots-on-goal, scoring a pair of second-half goals to stun Rocky Mountain College, 2-0. Wylie Suda gave ESC the game-winner in the 51st minute off a pass from Maxton Hauser and Gavin McLeroy poked in an insurance strike with under three minutes remaining. Tristan Glaser (pictured) made three saves in goal to record the shutout.
#3 Southern Oregon 3, #6 Northwest 0
The second shutout of the day came as the Raiders of Southern Oregon dominated the Eagle, holding NU to just four shot attempts and owning a 16-3 advantage in shots-on-goal. Just 12 minutes into the contest, Sam Walker provided the game-winner, cleaning up an Adrian Villegas miss and firing home the rebound. Zack Woolley added two insurance goals, one in each half, to help SOU advance to the semifinals.
#5 Eastern Oregon 0, #4 Oregon Tech 0 (EOU Advances on PKs, 4-3).
A scoreless tie proved to be the most exciting game of the night as Eastern Oregon edged into the semifinals after a seven-round shootout, emerging with the 4-3 advantage. The Mountaineers had dominated play for most of the afternoon, owning a 23-3 shot advantage, but the Owls never gave up the fight despite playing a man down for the final 53 minutes of the game after a double-yellow card disqualification.
OIT’s Mitchell Jillson collected six saves as he completed a shutout while Max Rose didn’t need a save for his own shutout on the EOU side.
