Eugene, Ore. - The Northwest Christian men’s basketball team fell to Cal Maritime on Friday night 81-61. After starting the game off with an 8-2 lead the Beacons were outscored 51-23 in the first half as they shot just 35% from the field.
The Beacons (1-4) were led by senior guard Ernest Ugoagu as he scored a game-high 20 points along with three assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Off the bench, freshman Luke Burke scored seven points and five rebounds all in the second half. Senior Shawn Carson had a team-high seven rebounds to go with four points and one assist. NCU shot 36% from the field and from behind the arc for the game. Despite a poor shooting night, the Beacons were able to outscore the Keelhaulers in the second half 30-28.
Josh Hauser and Trey Porter led the Keelhaulers (4-1) with 19 points a piece as they combined to shoot 16 of 28 from the field. Zavier Lucero added a double-double with ten points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Cal Maritime had a great shooting night as they shot 50% from the field and 70% from three along with outrebounding the Beacons 51-37.
NCU will look to bounce back on Saturday as they host an exhibition against the Seattle Mountaineers at 7pm at the Morse Event Center.
