Women’s Basketball Falls In Season Opener
FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Evergreen State College women's basketball team fell 59-58 to Division III member Pacific University Friday night in the Stoller Center to open the Ken Schumann Classic.
Pacific led the entire game until the third quarter when Anna Cook tied the game up at 41 with a layup. Evergreen extended its lead with a jumper from Angela Sikora and Madison Early.
The Boxers came right back with a three pointer but Evergreen held onto the one-point lead. In the fourth quarter, Pacific went on a 7-0 run to take the 72-46 lead. That run was ended by a three from Cook. Evergreen was able to come within one but Pacific took the win.
Evergreen was led by Trinity Betoney, who had 18 points. Jerri Maluyo recorded 15 points and Anna Cook had 12 points. Angela Sikora, Merrily Jones and Betoney all led on the boards with six.
Pacific was led by Camy Aguinaldo, who had 16 points and Courtney Carolan added 11 points. Shelby Holman led on the rebounds with 11.
The Geoducks, recorded nine steals for the game, shot 43 percent from the field to Pacific's 42 points. Evergreen scored 13 points off of the 20 turnovers by the Boxers.
Evergreen is back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday to close out the tournament against Linfield.
