Mountaineers Use Dominant 2nd Half to Defeat Linfield 85-62

CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 17 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team outscored Linfield 44-26 in the second half to easily handle the Wildcats 85-62 on Friday at the Best Western Caldwell Inn and Suites Classic.
 
The Mountaineers (6-3) dominated the paint in the game, outrebounding the Wildcats 47-31 and holding a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint.
 
Junior transfer Megan Still had her best game as a Mountie with a career-high 20 points, shooting 8-for-13 with six rebounds. EOU was largely led by three scorers who reached double-digit points. Along with Still, senior Rachel Fielder had 19 points and seven rebounds while sophomore Beverly Slater had  17 points and five boards.
 
Senior Jane Nelson added nine points while fellow senior Emma Logan had four points and six rebounds in 28 minutes.
 
EOU shot 48 percent from the field and were effective at the free throw line going 11-for-14. Defensively, the Mounties held the Wildcats to 35 percent from the field and 5-for-22 from behind the arc.
 
After leading by just five at halftime, EOU came out firing in the third quarter and outscored Linfield 23-12 to take a commanding 16-poiint lead into the fourth quarter. The Mounties did not let up in the fourth as they cruised to victory with 21 more points.
 
The Mountaineers will continue in the tournament in Caldwell on Saturday, facing Carroll College at 3 p.mm. Mountain Time.
