Men's Soccer 11/3/2019 12:20:00 AM Yasmin Mookerdum, Sports Information Graduate Assistant EOU Men's Soccer Defeats Warner Pacific 3-0 LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Eastern Oregon men's soccer team moved one step closer to clinching a play-off berth after defeating Warner Pacific 3-0 Saturday night in CCC play. With their season on the line and trying to clinch a spot in the CCC Tournament, the Mountaineers did not mess around and took the lead early. After receiving the ball over the defense from defender Erik Mattice, senior Elvis Pavon struck the ball nicely to give EOU the perfect start, going up 1-0 in the fifth minute. EOU increased its lead at the 57 minute mark, making it 2-0. Joaquin Bermejillo picked out Alexander Zuluaga and slipped the ball past defenders into the box for Zuluaga who first time shot it past Jaun Inzunza. Zuluaga scored his brace when he and Pavon combined for some close play inside the box. Zuluaga calmly tucked the ball away, giving the Mounties a three-goal advantage. Max Rose earned his third shutout of the year, and had five important saves to keep the Knights off the score sheet. Pavon led both teams in shots with four, closely followed by Warner Pacific's Omar Alcazar with three. The Mountaineers had the edge in shots 14-11, with both teams putting five on goal. The team will be home again Sunday for Senior Day, celebrating eight seniors in Elvis Pavon, Alex Gutierrez, Josh Ebel, Jack Rose, Oscar Alegria, Micah Hill, Jorge Chavez and Oscar Munoz. Kick off is scheduled for 3:30 pm against Multnomah at Community Stadium. For more information on Eastern Oregon men's soccer, follow @EOUAthletics or visit eousports.com.
