EOU Falls to No. 7 Carroll College 69-60

CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 17 Eastern Oregon women's basketball team was defeated Saturday night 69-60 by No. 7 Carroll College at the Best Western Caldwell Inn and Suites Classic.

The Mountaineers (6-4) entered the fourth quarter in a battle with the Saints, with the score tied 43-43. However, Carroll scored the first points of the quarter and never relinquished the lead with a 26-17 advantage. All of the late scoring was done at the free throw line as after EOU pulled to within four points with 1:14 to play, the Saints made 7-of-10 free throws to put the game away.

EOU trailed by five heading to the third quarter, but tied things up with a 14-9 advantage in the quarter thanks to some tough defense.

Offensively, EOU had five scorers led by sophomore Beverly Slater who had team-highs of 17 points and eight rebounds. Senior Jane Nelson finished with 15 points. Senior Emma Logan and junior Megan Still each had 10 points while senior Kylie Smith added eight.

Overall, the Mounties shot 39 percent from the floor and just under 29 percent from behind the arc. Carroll shot 47 percent on field goals and finished with 16 made free throws to EOU's eight.

The Mountaineers will next be at home for the Cascade Collegiate Conference openers, hosting Multnomah on Friday at 6 p.m. and Warner Pacific Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum.
