EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team collected 52 points off the bench on Friday night as they rolled to a 99-75 victory over The Evergreen State College in the Morse Event Center.
With the win, the Beacons (7-5, 2-0 CCC) remain one of three teams still undefeated in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. They did it behind the strength of 50% shooting including a 14-for-31 night behind the three-point line. Defensively, the held Evergreen to 37% shooting, outrebounded the Geoducks 47-42 and collected seven blocks and six steals.
NCU led wire-to-wire and had built a 20-4 lead in just five minutes and were ahead by as many as 32 points in the second half before handing the game over to the reserves.
Five players were in double-digits for the Beacons including three off the bench. Dyshawn Hobson led all players with 18 points as he shot 6-for-10 from three-point range. Stevie Schlabach added 14 points and Logan Sand scored eleven while Nico Wolff came off the bend to register a game-high ten rebounds.
Among the starters, Ernest Ugoagu impressed with 17 points while Kaden Sand added 11. Logan Davis scored nine points and registered a game-high five assists.
The Geoducks (3-6, 0-3) also went deep on Friday as 64% of their points came from five non-starters. Mitch Wetmore and Lukas Kelly, who combine to average ten points per game, scored 15 apiece as Kelly shot 7-for-8 from the field. Anthony Grandberry added 11. The only Evergreen starter in double-digits was Elijah Fuller, scoring ten as the opening five combined to shoot just 9-for-40 from the field.
Evergreen will return to action on Saturday, heading up to Salem to take on Corban (7-7, 1-3) at 7:30 pm. At the same time, the Beacons will face off against Northwest University (7-4, 3-0) in a battle of teams undefeated in CCC action.
