Volleyball 12/4/2019 12:30:00 PM Iain Dexter, EOU Sports Information Director No. 7 EOU Sweeps No. 24 Reinhardt to Advance Past Pool Play SIOUX CITY, Iowa. – The No. 7 Eastern Oregon volleyball needed no wake-up call on Wednesday morning, dominating all three sets in a sweep of No. 24 Reinhardt in pool play of the NAIA Championships. With the win, the Mountaineers (31-3) automatically advance past pool play despite one more round on Thursday. This is due to both EOU and No. 10 Lindsey Wilson winning their first two matches. The pair of teams will face-off on Thursday at 12 p.m. Central Time, 10 a.m. Pacific Time that will be very impactful for the elimination round seeding. This is the fourth-straight year and fifth overall that the Mountaineers will reach the elimination rounds of the national tournament. EOU finished in the top-16 the last two years, making it to the quarterfinals, a program-best, in 2016. Much like Tuesday's win over Madonna, the Mounties were led by another outstanding performance from senior All-American Megan Bunn. The outside hitter had her second-consecutive 20-10 performance, posting 20 kills and 11 digs, while finishing with a remarkable .528 hitting percentage thanks to just one attack error. Senior Taylor Tibbetts added eight kills to two errors and sophomore Jet Taylor had seven kills with a team-best two blocks. Defensively, juniors Kiley McMurtrey and Aspen Christiansen finished with 18 and 15 digs, respectively, making it very difficult for the Eagle offense to find hardwood with their hits. Junior setter Madison Pilon had 36 assists and nine digs. The Mountaineers were able to hold the Eagles to a team .053 hitting percentage with a great effort defensively. This resulted in 30 kills to 23 errors for Reinhardt. On the EOU attack, the team hit .252 for the match with 42 kills, hitting over .200 in all three sets for a consistent all-around performance. Despite just two blocks in the match, the front line did a good job of setting up the back row with easier digs. The Mounties were perfect on receptions, as they did not allow a service ace by the Eagles. The Mountaineers next face a familiar Lindsey Wilson program, who they have matched up with the last two years in the national tournament. EOU will look for their first win against the Blue Raiders with match time on Thursday scheduled for 12 p.m. Central, 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
