KIRKLAND – Northwest scrapped hard but fell short to Oregon Tech Saturday, 82-77.

The game went back and forth and was tied at halftime and again heading into the fourth quarter.

“It was a tough loss for the Lady Eagles tonight in a really intense 40 minutes of basketball,” said NU Head Coach Ken Crawford. “The game could have gone either way, and it was fun to watch, fun to play, and fun to coach.”

The teams were still deadlocked with six minutes to go, but OIT got a pair of free throws by Makaila Napoleon with 5:39 remaining for a 69-67 lead. Napoleon added another free throw and then a basket for a 72-67 lead with 4:34 remaining.

By the time Lexi Biggerstaff scored to break the Eagles’ two-minute drought, the basket only served to narrow the gap to 74-69 with 3:51 left.

Three-pointers by Grace Meza and Athena Taylor twice got the NU deficit back down to two points, but the Owls answered both threats.

Kristin Farrell led OIT with 18 points, knocking down six three-pointers in seven attempts.

Taylor and Meza led NU with 16 points apiece, with Maya DuChesne scoring 14 and Sam Van Loo 10. Biggerstaff had 10 rebounds and four assists. DuChesne came up with four steals.
