SALEM, Ore. – The No. 19-ranked Corban University women's basketball team raced past Walla Walla University on Senior Night, downing the Wolves in convincing fashion, 63-37. The triumph means that if Corban wins on Sunday, it will clinch the No. 2 seed in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament.
"It was great to honor our seniors tonight," said Corban head coach Bill Pilgeram. "What a great group and they have been such an instrumental part of our success this year."
Corban led wire to wire in the win, playing stout defense in the second and fourth quarters, holding the Wolves to a combined seven points between those two stanzas.
Heidi Mueller led the way for Corban with 12 points in the triumph and was accompanied by Jordan Rasberry who also scored 12 points. Mueller caught fire from downtown, nailing four long-range efforts, while Rasberry recorded a double-double with 10 boards.
They were the only two Warriors in double-figures, but Josie Ferry chipped in seven points on a 3-for-3 shooting effort, while Kendra Murphy, Emily Yost, and Lindsay Asplund all totaled eight points.
For Walla Walla, Carolina Montes notched 17 points in the victory, while Itzel Rubio tallied 10.
Corban (21-8, 15-4 CCC) returns to the hardwood tomorrow to close out the CCC regular-season when it hosts Walla Walla once again, but this time tipoff is slated for 11 a.m. in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
