PORTLAND, Ore. – After seeing the first game of the day be cancelled at the Concordia Tournament, the No. 16-ranked Corban University softball team got its opportunity to play on Friday night, and the Warriors took full advantage of it, blasting NCAA Division II foe, Saint Martin's University in five innings, 14-1.
"I'm really proud of our group for fighting through some pretty tough rain and cold temperatures today," said Corban head coach Abigail Farler. "They were able to produce offensively so well. We saw outstanding hits from everyone in our lineup today, and our defense played very well behind Sarah who had an exceptional game."
Corban wasted no time on Friday night, as Sam Woodley and Jessie Isham both recorded RBI hits for the Navy and Gold in the top of the first frame to make it 2-0.
With the defense and pitching rolling, the offense was back at it in the third, tacking on five runs to make it 7-0. The big hit of the frame came from Makiah Johnson via an RBI triple.
In the fifth, up 7-1, Corban left no doubt, pouring it on with seven more runs highlighted by Kasie Kloempken's two-RBI double down the right-field line.
Sarah Probasco was excellent in the circle, going the distance while allowing just four hits and one run and striking out four in the five-inning triumph.
At the plate, Sam Woodley went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while Tabby Humphrey went 2-for-2 at the dish for the Warriors. Mahina Chong finished the night with a team-best three runs scored, while Isham tallied two RBI in the victory.
The Warriors (4-4) are back in action on Sunday when they take on two more NCAA Division II foes, playing Central Washington University at 11:15 a.m. and Saint Martin's again at 1:30 p.m. at Concordia University.
