Under Armour Team of the Week Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Southern Oregon men’s basketball team has been named the “Under Armour Team of the Week” for February 18-24 the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
Seeded No. 6 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Southern Oregon managed two upset wins on the road to advance to the championship game on Tuesday night.
In the quarterfinal tilt against No. 3 seed Northwest Christian, the Raiders were on top of the Beacons 63-49 with less than 15-minutes to play and withstood a furious comeback by the home team and held on for the 77-76 win. Tristen Holmes went 4-for-5 from three-point range and finished with 19 points and nine rebounds to lead SOU. Tate Hoffman came off the bench to score 13 points.
Southern would face No. 4 seed Corban University in the semifinal game, again as the road team. In what could have been a Hollywood script, junior Aaron Borich delivered on a three-point dagger just as the buzzer sounded lifting the Raiders to a 76-74 win. SOU was victim to a similar scenario just two weeks ago at Corban when a pair buzzer-beating 3-pointers gave the Warriors the win. Tristen Holmes was equally clutch in bringing SOU back from eight points down in the final three minutes, where he hit three of his five 3-pointers to finish with 20 points.
Southern Oregon (21-10, 9-9 CCC) will travel to Caldwell, Idaho for the CCC Championship game presented by U.S. Bank on Feb. 26 where they will face No. 2 seed The College of Idaho. The winner will take home the “Danny Miles” Tournament Trophy along with the league’s second automatic qualification to the NAIA National Tournament.
