Portland, Ore. – Northwest University (1-2) struggled to perform against Concordia University (5-8), losing 8-0. The game ended after the top of the fifth inning due to the mercy run rule.
The Eagles had their only two hits of the game in the first inning, when Sammi Caron and Alexis Contreras both hit singles to get on base. Caron ended up stealing second, but was caught before her advancement to third base on Contreras’ hit.
The Cavaliers dominated the rest of the game, especially in the bottom of the third, where they scored six of their eight runs. In the fourth inning, Hannah Self hit a homer to left field to push them to the mercy rule. They had ten hits in the entire game, and won comfortably.
Northwest head coach Pam Fink commented, “It was rough tonight. Concordia had one big inning but I thought Isabella Gonzalez pitched well. I believe in this team. The sun will come out tomorrow and we will be back out there getting after it.”
