Women's Basketball 2/25/2019 9:55:00 PM Dakota Zellmer, EOU Sport Information Intern 3-Peat! EOU Women's Basketball Knocks Off Corban 75-60 in CCC Finals FULL HIGHLIGHTS LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the third year in a row, the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship, presented by U.S. Bank, will reside in La Grande after the No. 9 and No. 1-seeded Eastern Oregon women's basketball team defeated No. 2-seeded Corban 75-60 on Monday night at Quinn Coliseum, aired live on ROOT Sports Northwest. The Mountaineers (28-3, 19-1 CCC) captured their third-straight tournament title, the last two at home, and the sixth overall, tying Southern Oregon for the most in program history. The Mountaineers extended their home winning streak to 46-straight games, clinching the third unbeaten season at home with a 16-0 record in Quinn Coliseum. After a double-overtime thriller on Friday in the semifinals, EOU found a way to carry that same intensity into the championship game. The Blue and Gold came out of the gates with high intensity, hustling for loose balls and constantly pressuring Corban on the defensive end, forcing offensive fouls. Once again, the key to the Mountaineer success came from All-American and reigning CCC Player of the Year Maya Ah You Dias, who was named Red Lion Player of the Game. Ah You Dias led the team with 27 points and seven rebounds, shooting 10-for-19 from the field in another brilliant night for the senior. Throughout the tournament, she averaged 30.6 points and 12 rebounds per game. In the second half the Mountaineers came out determined to keep the trophy in La Grande. EOU connected on nine three pointers, led by senior guard Maren Herrud, who shot 3-for-5 shooting from behind the arc. Herrud went on to finish with 17 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the field. Junior Madison Crews kept the Mounties attacking, helping set up teammates with easy baskets, tallying 10 assist and four steals. Junior Jane Nelson had eight points, while freshman Beverly Slater grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, adding seven points. Head coach Anji Weissenfluh continued to add to her coaching profile with her fifth tournament championship, already securing her 11th CCC regular season titles as head coach of the women's basketball program. Weissenfluh illustrated trust in all her of her players, similar as the regular season, playing a total of 13 players on the night. Nine different Mounties got in the scoring column. The Mountaineers nearly led the entire game, only trailing in the opening seconds after a Corban early basket to take a 2-0 advantage. EOU's perimeter defense played a key role, holding the Warriors to 3-for-17 (17.6%) shooting from behind the arc. Corban also made just 11-of-22 free throws, leaving key points on the board. The MOunties' defense was also prevalent in holding the second leading scorer in Jordan Woodvine to just seven points. Woodvine ranked second with 18.3 points per game entering the night, but was held in check by EOU's aggressive defense. Emily Yost led the Corban Warriors with 18 points and seven rebounds while Treasure Farmer added 14 points and tallied seven assists. Before the game, both teams had already clinched berths in the NAIA Championships, as both teams will prepare for the opening round of the tournament on March 6 in Sioux City, Iowa. The NAIA will host an official bracket reveal on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. Central, 4 p.m. Pacific time on Facebook Live. EOU will host a watch party in the booster room in Quinn Coliseum as the Mounties discover their seeding and first round opponent.
