Mountaineers Hit More Qualifying Marks at 2-Day Jackson’s Invitational

NAMPA, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon track and field teams completed another strong two days of work as they continue to hit nationally qualifying marks for the NAIA Championships, Friday and Saturday at the Jackson’s Invitational.
 
Senior Paige Dodd once again highlighted Friday’s first day of competition, where she posted another school record. This time Dodd set the women’s 60-meter hurdles record, shattering the previous mark of 9.36 seconds (Ashana Hodge in 2015) with a time of 9.18 seconds on Friday. The time was also .24 seconds better than her own PR and was good enough for an NAIA ‘B’ provisional mark.
 
The women’s continued its success into Saturday when the 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Megan Bolton, junior Katie Emerson, freshman Michelle Herbes and junior Elizabeth Herbes hit a provisional mark of 3:59.67, winning their heat and placing fourth overall.
 
Bolton and Elizabeth Herbes had strong finishes in the 400 meters, taking fifth and sixth place, respectively, while also having the fifth and sixth fastest times in program history at 58.91 and 59.02.
 
On Friday, the women’s distance medley relay team of the Herbes sisters, Megan Boals and Faith Homer produced the fifth best time at EOU of 12:41.13.
 
In the women’s 800, Olivia Lane moved up to No. 18 all-time with a mark of 2:24.94, winning her heat. Amanda Welch placed second in the heat in her first race on the track since 2016.
 
Megan Boals had the 17th fastest indoor time in the mile, placing in 5:31.69. Teammate Stormy Bullard jumped into the record books at No. 24 in the 3,000 meters with a mark of 11:55.27.
 
Lane and Kalulusno Ngaida had good showings in the women’s long jump. Ngaida moved up from No. 13 to No. 10 with a jump of 5.05 meters, while Lane remained No. 20 with a PR of 4.74 meters. Victoria Branch also improved her PR in the triple jump to 10.61 meters, remaining sixth in program history.
 
Maggie Ledbetter moved up to No. 8 at EOU in the shot put while placing fourth individually with a toss of 12.13 meters for a new PR. Ledbetter also moved up to No. 2- in the weight throw on Friday with a  mark of 12.49 meters.
 
On the men’s side, Connor Young and Cory Wockenfuss moved up in the rankings in the men’s 400 meters. Young took fifth individually in 49.61 for the program’s third best time, while Wockenfuss had the 17th best time. Alex Navarro cut off half a second on his PR in the 3,000 meters, remaining 13th at EOU at 8:42.63.
 
Aleexander Kosel bumped up to No. 23 in the high jump at 1.86 meters. Justin Gould cleared 16 feet for the first time in his career at 4.95 meters, the No. 3 best jump at EOU and the No. 2 mark in the NAIA this season entering the day.
 
The men’s 4x400 meter relay team ended the meet well for EOU, running the 15th best time in 3:27.12. The team consisted of Nicholas Griffin, Derian Handfield, Cooper Shaw and Connor Young.
 
On Friday, the DMR team of Travis Running, Handfield, Brennen LeBel and Hunter Schiess posted the 20th best time at EOU in 10:48.72.
 
Jonah Coats improved his long jump mark up to 6.16 meters, ranking 23rd at EOU. Robie Swanson ran his first 5,000-meter race, hitting No. 16 with a time of 16:51.68. Nicholas Griffin moved up to No. 14 in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 7.28 seconds while reaching No. 24 in the 200-meters in 23.32.
 
The Mountaineers are back in action next Saturday at the Boise State Challenge in one of the final meets for indoor nationals.
