SALEM, Ore. – Four members of the No. 19-ranked Corban University women's basketball team finished in double figures in Friday night's 73-66 victory over (RV) Southern Oregon University. The triumph pushes Corban's win streak to six, and is the team's 13th win out of its last 14 contests.
"We did a very good job of playing hard and being poised throughout the game," said head coach Bill Pilgeram. "Southern Oregon thrives on pressure defense and taking teams out of their rhythm, and we did a great job against their defense."
Emily Yost was outstanding in the paint for Pilgeram and company, tallying a game-high 22 points to go alongside four rebounds. Jordan Woodvine (15 points, five assists, four rebounds), Treasure Farmer (12 points, seven rebounds, five assists) and Lindsay Asplund (10 points, nine rebounds) rounded out the Navy and Gold's four double-digit scorers.
"Lindsay Asplund—finishing just one rebound away from a double-double from the guard position—gave us a big lift tonight," Pilgeram added.
As a team, Corban shot 47.1% from the field, and 35% from beyond the arc. With all but one of the squad's starting five finishing with at least 10 points, the Warriors showed just how deep their arsenal can be, aptly maneuvering a tricky Southern Oregon defense.
The Warrior defense was relentless in its own right, forcing 17 Raider turnovers and holding the Cascade Collegiate Conference's (CCC) second-highest scoring offense to just 66 points.
"Jordan Rasberry took six charges, and that was incredible," said Pilgeram. "It set the tone for our whole team defense."
Southern Oregon was led by Daranda Hinkey and Syd Fryer, who each ended the night with 15 points.
The Warriors (19-7, 13-3 CCC) will now look ahead to another tough CCC matchup tomorrow night, this time against Oregon Tech. Tip-off at C.E. Jeffers Sports Center is slated for 5:30 p.m.
